About DIFFÉRANCE
DIFFÉRANCE is a transformative performing arts organisation led by Patrizia Paolini and Dr Jonathan Haynes. The company is a founding member of IATL - The International Alliance of Independent Theatre.
We produce our own programme of artistic work and we champion the work of marginalised artists, fostering a paradigm shift in their representation in Hackney, North London, and beyond. Our mission is to empower creativity and facilitate the development of innovative performance that resonates with a diverse audience.
Innovative Performances
We host a variety of performances that push boundaries and celebrate diversity.
We’ve responded to the challenges of gentrification, Covid and the cost-of-living crisis through a series of local initiatives: THE ROOM at Hoxton Hall and The Sunday Salon at The Cock Tavern in Mare St.
They have grown organically into grassroots groups that have sprung from a real need in the community for an alternative cultural scene. Groups that are headed by marginalised creatives devoted to promoting excluded Hackney-based artists like themselves.
DIFFÉRANCE works with these groups to give a voice to artists on the margin and to set up accessible participatory projects which provide enriching, cohesive, holistic and economic benefits to the community of Hackney as a whole.
